One Hurt in Four-Vehicle Accident on Highway 101 near Petaluma

PETALUMA, CA (April 15, 2021) – A multi-vehicle accident Wednesday morning on Highway 101 resulted in minor to moderate injuries, officials said.

The California Highway Patrol reported that the incident took place near the Lakeville Highway exit in Petaluma. At about 9:11 a.m., four vehicles collided in the area.

Based on an initial investigation, a Toyota Tacoma stopped in traffic while merging onto Highway 101 from East Washington Street. A Ford F250 then rear-ended the Toyota and then overturned in the center lanes.

Meantime, the force of the crash pushed the Toyota forward, causing it to collide with a Nissan Murano. Subsequently, the Nissan struck an Acura MDX.

Officials said at least one person sustained minor to moderate injuries. A patient was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

Meanwhile, southbound Highway 101 remained unpassable to vehicles while responders worked on the scene of the collision. The Petaluma police issued a Nixle alert to advise drivers to take alternate routes. A Caltrans crew also responded to the scene to clear debris from the roadway.

Due to their nature and complexity, highways often become the scenes of an accident. When driving through one, stay alert and be vigilant of the condition of the road. Drive within the prescribed speed limit and always put your seat belts on. Additionally, take proper breaks after every couple of hours of continuous driving.
