57-Year-Old Man Dies after Ran Over by Garbage Truck near Del Rey Court in Long Beach

 
LONG BEACH, CA (January 20, 2022) – A 57-year-old homeless man died in a pedestrian accident near Del Rey Court and Anaheim Street on Tuesday afternoon.
 
The accident happened around 1:00 p.m. on January 18. According to the Long Beach Police Department, the driver of a privately-owned garbage truck was backing up on Del Rey Court when he ran over the man, who was lying in the alley.
 
When officers arrived, they found the man with fatal injuries and pronounced him dead at the scene.
 
Authorities withheld the identity of the victim pending notification of next of kin.
 
The 62-year-old driver from Norwalk remained on scene and cooperated with police. He was later released from the scene.
 
At this time, the Long Beach Police Department is investigating the fatality.
