FRESNO COUNTY, CA (March 7, 2022) – A teen girl died while Ashley Engen and Leticia Cardona suffered serious injuries after a two-car accident in Fresno County, early Saturday morning.

The fatal accident happened just after 7:00 a.m. on March 5 at Mt. Whitney Avenue and Cedar Street. CHP officials said Engen, a 35-year-old Hanford resident, was driving a 2020 Lexus sedan north on Cedar Street when she ran a stop sign at Mt. Whitney Avenue. She then broadsided a 2016 Honda Accord that was heading west on Mt. Whitney.

As a result, the 14-year-old female passenger in the Honda died at the scene. She was the daughter of Cardona, a 40-year-old Laton resident. Cardona was the one driving the Honda.

Cardona and Engen both suffered major injuries. As a result, paramedics took them to Community Regional Medical Center in downtown Fresno for proper treatment.

Engen’s passenger, her 15-year-old daughter, also sustained life-threatening injuries.

Neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash. The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident.
