Gilverto Castro Killed in Bakersfield School Bus Crash on Mt Vernon Avenue near Belle Terrace

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (August 28, 2023) — Gilverto Castro died in a school bus accident on Mt Vernon Avenue near Belle Terrace.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal school bus crash happened on August 24 around 6:33 p.m. For unknown reasons, a southbound Toyota Sienna entered the opposing lane and struck a Kern High School District school bus head-on. As a result of the crash, the 48-year-old Toyota driver, Gilverto Moreno Castro of Lamont, passed away in the collision. Paramedics took three people from the bus to Kern Medical Hospital for minor to moderate injuries.
 
According to authorities, the school bus shuttling about 38 students was on its way to a game at East Bakersfield High School when the accident happened.
