Francisco Gonzalez Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash on Broadway [South Los Angeles, CA]

Bicyclist Dies after Dragged by Van in South LA, Hit-and-Run Suspect Arrested

 
LOS ANGELES, CA (October 26, 2023) – Francisco Gonzalez was killed in a hit-and-run crash in the South Los Angeles area Tuesday morning on October 24.
 
The fatal crash happened around 9:00 a.m. on Broadway near 115th Street. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Gonzalez was riding his bicycle and was crossing near the intersection with a van traveling southbound on Broadway struck him.
 
Gonzalez became lodged onto the undercarriage of the van, which then continued southbound, turning down several city streets for approximately one mile. He then became dislodged at Broadway and El Segundo Boulevard.
 
Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 65 years old, according to the Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner’s Office.
 
On Tuesday, police arrested the suspect, identified as 66-year-old Felipe Avalos. They booked him on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter at $50,000 bail.
