Kickboxer Suffers Life-Altering Injuries after Struck by Hit-and-Run Car while Riding Motorcycle in Golden Hill Neighborhood

 
GOLDEN HILLS, CA (May 21, 2023) – Francesca Petrolo’s foot was amputated after a motorcycle hit-and-run crash in the Golden Hills neighborhood earlier this month on May 6.
 
The crash happened around 2:00 p.m. on Market Street near 21st Street. According to the reports, Petrolo was riding her motorcycle on Market Street when a dark-colored car came out of nowhere, trying to make a U-turn. The car then hit the motorcycle on the left side.
 
The impact caused Petrolo to roll several times, leading to life-altering injuries. She sustained a long list of broken bones, including a spine, wrist and leg.
 
A devastating foot injury forced her to make the decision, to have her left leg amputated above the ankle.
 
Petrolo was 36 years old from San Diego and a kickboxer. She was an amateur boxer and kickboxer in her native Italy, before moving nearly 5 years ago to San Diego, where she has competed in kickboxing. She had taught a youth boxing class for a local nonprofit, before hopping on her motorcycle to head home.
 
Petrolo is already plotting out her physical therapy, and life with a prosthetic foot.
 
A Gofundme campaign has been started to help her with medical and other expenses.
 
Meanwhile, the driver of the sedan did not stop and remains at large.
