Man on Bicycle Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver on 98th Avenue in Oakland

 
OAKLAND, CA (May 21, 2023) – A bicyclist was killed in a hit-and-run crash at 98th Avenue and D Street in East Oakland on Wednesday evening.
 
The fatal crash happened around 9:19 p.m. on May 17. According to the Oakland Police Department, the bicyclist was riding in the area when a white vehicle struck him.
 
After striking the bicyclist, the driver fled the scene. The vehicle was last seen going southbound on 98th Avenue.
 
First responders found the bicyclist unresponsive on the sidewalk at the intersection. They rushed him to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
 
The victim was only identified as a 50-year-old Oakland man.
 
Traffic investigators said it is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash.
