Suspected DUI Crash at Carl’s Jr. Drive-Thru on Kearny Mesa Road Leaves Four People Injured

KEARNY MESA, CA (October 3, 2023) – Four people were hurt in a suspected DUI rollover crash on Kearny Mesa Road Saturday night on September 30.

According to the San Diego Police Department, a 23-year-old man was driving a 1990 Toyota Tacoma southbound in the 4000 block of Kearny Mesa Road around 6:30 p.m. The driver failed to follow the road’s curve and hit a curb, launching the pickup truck and flipping it over into the Carl’s Jr. drive thru wall.

After the initial crash, the pickup truck also rear-ended a 2001 Honda Accord sitting in the line.

As a result, the man driving the Tacoma suffered major injuries, including a fractured vertebra and a brain bleed.

A passenger in the backseat of the Honda fractured their ribs in the crash, while the front-seat passenger had a cut to their head.

The driver of the Honda, a 40-year-old woman, complained of pain.

Officers with the SDPD traffic division are investigating the crash. They believe that the driver of the Tacoma was driving under the influence of alcohol. They asked witnesses to reach out to Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
