Fernando Banda Killed, Fredy Meza Charged in Hit-and-Run DUI Pedestrian Crash on Laurel Drive and Williams Road

 
SALINAS, CA (October 9, 2023) — Fernando Banda died in a hit-and-run DUI pedestrian accident on Laurel Drive and Williams Road.
 
According to the Salinas police, the fatal hit-and-run happened around 9:16 p.m. Wednesday. For DUI-related reasons, 31-year-old Fredy Medina Meza struck a male pedestrian crossing the street outside a marked crosswalk. Per surveillance footage, the vehicle dragged the victim about 50 yards before the body came to rest.
 
Following the crash, Meza left, leaving 43-year-old Fernando Miranda Banda, of Salinas, with grave injuries. Soon after, paramedics rushed Banda to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.
 
Not long after, however, police found Meza at his home near Closter Park and learned he was impaired four times over the legal limit. They subsequently booked him into the Monterey County Jail on a $1 million bond.
