Woman Fleeing Police Pursuit Dies after Struck by Vehicles in Sacramento

 
SACRAMENTO, CA (September 18, 2023) – Fatina Chaney was hit and killed by a car after a police chase in Sacramento early Saturday morning on September 16.
 
The fatal crash happened just after 4:00 a.m. on 80 Freeway near Raley Boulevard. Minutes before the fatality, the victim was in a vehicle that had been involved in a police chase, according to the Sacramento Police Department.
 
Police officers tried to pull over the vehicle in the area of Evergreen Street and Del Paso Boulevard. The vehicle then led officers on a pursuit. Police called off the chase after they lost sight of the vehicle.
 
Minutes later, the suspect vehicle crashed on 80 Freeway near Raley Bouelevard.
 
After the crash, Chaney ran away from the crash scene. While running away, several cars struck her. At least two of the cars that hit her stopped at the scene.

Chaney suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. She was 19 years old, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

CHP’s North Sacramento office is handling the investigation.
