Driver of Stolen Vehicle Dies in Crash while Fleeing Police in Manteca

 
MANTECA, CA (February 14, 2022) – Eric Gray was killed in a police pursuit crash in Manteca last month.
 
The fatal crash happened on January 16, according to the Manteca Police Department. Officers were alerted to a possible stolen vehicle in the area of North Union Road and West Lathrop Road. Upon their arrival, they located a white Ford pickup that had been reported stolen.
 
Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the driver failed to yield and a pursuit ensued.
 
Gray, a 35-year-old Oakdale resident, led officers westbound on West Lathrop Road at a high rate of speed. As he drove over the overpass, he struck a fixed object on the road and went down the overpass embankment.
 
As a result of the crash, Gray suffered major injuries and died at the scene.
 
At this time, an investigation into this fatality is ongoing.
