Driver Killed in Police Pursuit at Lake Boulevard and Cannon Road [Oceanside, CA]

Fleeing Driver dies after Pursuit Ends in Oceanside Crash on Lake Boulevard

 
OCEANSIDE, CA (June 19, 2022) – A driver died after a police pursuit on Lake Boulevard in Oceanside early Friday morning on June 17.
 
The pursuit began some time before 4:19 a.m. in Vista when a commercial burglary alarm went off near the 1900 block of Willow Ridge. Deputies responded to find a man passed out in the driver’s seat of a pickup truck. They also spotted pool equipment in the truck bed and what they suspected were illegal drugs in the center console.
 
Deputies woke the driver up and he quickly drove off. The deputies scrambled back to their patrols vehicle and started looking for him. They soon saw him, turned on their lights and sirens and gave chase, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
 
Moments later, the pickup truck crashed into a traffic pole at the intersection of Lake Boulevard and Cannon Road in Oceanside.
 
As a result of the crash, the driver suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
 
One deputy was taken to a hospital with inhalation injuries.
 
Footage from the crash showed the vehicle with severe damage to the front and its truck bed full of chemicals in buckets, which spilled onto the road.
 
Officials did not release the identity of the deceased. The investigation is ongoing.
