Driver Detained, Woman, Child Unharmed in San Diego Police Pursuit on 15 Freeway

 
SAN DIEGO, CA (February 13, 2023) — A driver was arrested in a police chase on the 15 Freeway near Highway 163 Thursday night.
 
According to California Highway Patrol officers, the incident happened around 11:00 p.m. CHP officers attempted to stop a Kia sedan driver from speeding and weaving in and out of the lanes on the northbound 15 Freeway. However, the driver refused to comply and sped away.
 
Police thus pursued the vehicle, which was reportedly stolen, as the car reached speeds of 120 miles per hour. Moments later, the driver exited Mira Mesa before trying to re-enter the 15 Freeway. However, the car pulled over before the on-ramp as flames and smoke started to envelop the vehicle.
 
Luckily, the Kia driver, a woman and a 6-year-old girl escaped the fire unharmed. Police officers subsequently arrested the driver and interviewed the child and woman following the incident.
