David Burkhart Killed in High-Speed Chase on North Market Street [Redding, CA]

Rider Dies after Crashing into SUV During High-Speed Chase on North Market Street in Redding

 
REDDING, CA (April 19, 2022) – David Gene Burkhart was killed in a high-speed chase at North Market Street and Twin View Boulevard in Redding on Friday afternoon.
 
Around 2:30 p.m. on April 15, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office tried to stop a motorcycle near Oasis Road and 5 Freeway.
 
Burkhart refused to stop and took off at a high speed eventually entering onto northbound Interstate 5 traveling south against traffic, according to the Redding Police Department.
 
Due to the dangerous driving, deputies immediately stopped pursuing the motorcycle.
 
The motorcycle continued south exiting onto North Market Street still traveling against traffic. As it approached the intersection of North Market Street and Twin View Boulevard, Burkhart crashed into a white SUV waiting to turn from North Market Street onto eastbound Twin View Boulevard.
 
As a result, Burkhart was ejected from the motorcycle and died at the scene. He was a 34-year-old Corning resident.
 
Meanwhile, the driver of the SUV and a passenger both sustained minor injuries and received medical attention.
 
An investigation into this fatality is ongoing.
