Man Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver while Pushing Disabled Car in Long Beach, Patrick Mount Arrested

 
LONG BEACH, CA (July 12, 2021) – Darnell Bluitt was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Long Beach early Wednesday morning, July 7.
 
The crash happened around 3:45 a.m. on Artesia Boulevard at Butler Avenue, near the 710 Freeway. According to the Long Beach Police Department, the 54-year-old victim from Compton and another man were pushing a disabled 1993 Acura sedan with the help of a 43-year-old Compton woman who was steering the vehicle.
 
A 2010 GMC truck struck them from behind and fled to a nearby neighborhood.
 
As a result, Bluitt suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
 
Paramedics took the woman in the vehicle to a hospital with unspecified injuries.
 
Officers later located the truck and the suspect, identified as 57-year-old Patrick Mount of Long Beach. Police arrested Mount on suspicion of DUI, hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter with bail set at $100,000.
 
An investigation is ongoing.
