Amtrak Train Hits Car in Fresno County Killing Driver and Passenger

 
FRESNO COUNTY, CA (April 23, 2023) – Danny Shelton and his passenger died after a train slammed into their car in Fresno County Tuesday night on April 18.
 
The fatal crash happened around 6:00 p.m. on East Conejo Avenue near Peach Avenue. According to the CHP, Shelton drove his Nissan Versa around the downed railroad crossings. An Amtrak train then collided with the car, launching it about 200 feet up the tracks.
 
Shelton, a 48-year-old Fresno resident, died upon impact. His female passenger succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
 
The Fresno County Coroner’s Office only identified the passenger as a 22-year-old Reedley resident.
 
The 1,300 passengers on the train were unharmed.
 
It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
