OAKDALE, CA (September 9, 2022) — Catherine Mae King Velvetrose and five others suffered injuries in a crash on Wednesday, September 8.
 
According to California Highway Patrol Modesto office spokesman Officer Tom Olsen, the accident occurred at around 9:20 p.m. on Highway 120 near Lancaster Road.
 
Velvetrose – a 17-year-old resident of Mountain House in San Joaquin County – drove west on Highway 120. She was alone in a 2004 Chevrolet SUV and allowed her car to partially enter the eastbound lane. Then her vehicle went directly into the path of a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup.
 
Velvetrose sustained minor injuries. Medics rushed her to Oak Valley Hospital in Oakdale for treatment.
 
The pickup was driven by 20-year-old Sonora resident Sebastian Ruiz who had four passengers. Ruiz suffered major injuries and the impact pinned him in the truck. Firefighters freed him and then airlifted him to Doctors Med.
 
Officials only described Ruiz’s passengers as young adult males between the ages of 18 and 20. One of them had minor injuries and medics brought him to Oak Valley Hospital. The other three sustained major injuries and were airlifted to Modesto trauma centers.
 
Authorities said intoxication did not play a role in the crash.
