Man Trying to Steal Catalytic Converter Dies after Struck by SUV on 10th Street West in Palmdale

 
PALMDALE, CA (February 15, 2023) – A catalytic converter theft was fatally struck by SUV on 10th Street West in Palmdale Tuesday night on February 14.
 
Just before 6:00 p.m., deputies from the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station responding to a parking lot in the 39400 block of 10th Street West after receiving calls about a grand theft of a car.
 
Upon their arrival, they found the suspect lying in a parking space suffering from blunt trauma wounds.
 
During the investigation, deputies learned the victim was asleep in the Ford Excursion when she heard a sawing noise underneath her vehicle. She started the SUV and put it in reverse before realizing that she had run over the suspect. She got out of her car and called 911.
 
Paramedics rushed the suspect to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
 
Deputies later located three additional suspects, two women and a man, inside a department store near the scene. They were taken into custody and detained at the Palmdale station.
 
Further investigation is underway.
