Bryant Noyola and Norma Rodriguez Killed in Head-On Accident on Highway 99 [Merced, CA]

Head-On Crash on Highway 99 in Merced Kills Two People and Injures Three Others

 
MERCED, CA (November 27, 2023) – Bryant Noyola and Norma Rodriguez were killed in a head-on accident in Merced early Thanksgiving morning.
 
The fatal accident happened around 4:15 a.m. on Highway 99 just north of Westside Boulevard. According to the California Highway Patrol, Noyola was driving a 2002 Hyundai Elantra the wrong way at approximately 80 to 90 mph when he collided head-on with a Chevrolet Tahoe. The impact caused the Tahoe to overturn on its roof and catch fire.
 
The driver of the Tahoe, 43-year-old Gonzalo Ahumbra of Modesto, and two rear passengers escaped the SUV as it burned.
 
CHP officers pulled Rodriguez from the Tahoe, but she died from her injuries. She was 49 years old from Modesto.
 
Noyola, 22, also died in the crash. He was also a Modesto resident, according to the Merced County Coroner’s Office.
 
Ahumbra suffered major injuries. His other passengers, 19-year-old Cecilia Jimenez and a 17-year-old Modesto girl, suffered moderate injuries. All were taken to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.
 
It is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
