Brian Smith Dead, Joseph Russo Hurt in Motorcycle Crash on South Avenue near Gardiner Ferry Road

 
VINA, CA (June 13, 2023) Brian Smith died in a motorcycle accident on South Avenue near Gardiner Ferry Road.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol Red Bluff office, the fatal motorcycle crash happened on South Avenue around 2:00 p.m. Saturday. For an unknown reason, 87-year-old Joseph M. Russo made a left-hand turn at Gardiner Ferry Road and his eastbound car went directly into a motorcycle’s path. The motorcycle, a 2019 Harley Davidson traveling westbound, crashed into Russo’s 1998 Buick.
 
Soon after, emergency personnel responded to the scene and rendered lifesaving efforts to the Harley-Davidson rider, 47-year-old Brian James Smith. However, despite these efforts, Smith passed away.
 
Russo suffered minor injuries in the accident. At this time, authorities do not believe alcohol or drugs played a factor in the accident, but further investigation should reveal more details about where the fault sits.
