Chad Macias Dies in Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crash on Highway 101 near 7th Street

 
ARCATA, CA (June 13, 2023) — Chad Macias died in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident on Highway 101 near 7th Street.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal pedestrian accident happened Tuesday evening. As 45-year-old Macias was crossing Highway 101, a driver in what authorities believe was a 2015 to 2017 Audi A3 struck him.
 
Moments after, authorities responded to the scene to find him lying near the median with debris nearby. After studying the debris at the scene, authorities believe that the driver left driving an Audi model.
 
In the investigation, authorities believe Macias, who lived in a nearby homeless encampment, was crossing the highway around 9:00 p.m. toward the Arcata Safeway when the accident occurred.
