Brian Medrano, Carlos Benitez Killed in Canal Accident on Panama Lane near Arvin-Edison Canal

 
KERN COUNTY, CA (August 24, 2023)Brian Medrano and Carlos Benitez died in a canal crash on Panama Lane near the Arvin-Edison canal on August 14.
 
According to the Kern County Coroner’s Office, officials identified the two Bakersfield victims as 27-year-old Carlos Eduardo Benitez and 29-year-old Brian Ivan Medrano.
 
Under unclear circumstances, the pair was in a car traveling at an unknown speed when the vehicle crashed into the Arvin-Edison Canal around 2:00 a.m.
 
Moments later, Bakersfield Police responded to the 4200 block of East Panama Lane to locate the vehicle. However, due to the rapid current, police were unable to reach the victims.
 
Due to this dire event, Search and Rescue Crews also responded and reached the vehicle around 9:50 a.m. That is when police officers discovered the two men deceased inside.
 
At this time, officials do not know the cause of death or what led to the accident. However, Bakersfield Police are looking into the details.
