54-Year-Old Bicyclist Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver on Grapefruit Boulevard in Thermal

 
THERMAL, CA (December 10, 2023) – A bicyclist was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Grapefruit Boulevard in Thermal late Thursday evening on December 7.
 
The fatal crash happened around 11:25 p.m. just north of Palm Street. According to the California Highway Patrol, the bicyclist was riding southbound on Grapefruit Boulevard when a vehicle, which was also heading south, hit him.
 
After the initial crash, a second vehicle also struck the bicyclist.
 
Paramedics arrived soon after and pronounced the bicyclist dead at the scene. He was a 54-year-old Coachella resident.
 
The first driver who hit him fled the scene and has not yet been located.
 
CHP reported the driver of the second vehicle, who stopped and called 911, will not be charged.
 
Further investigation is underway.
