Biker Dies after Struck by Drunk Hit-and-Run Driver on Indiana Avenue in Riverside
RIVERSIDE, CA (July 18, 2022) – A bicyclist died in a DUI hit-and-run crash at Indiana Avenue and La Sierra Avenue in Riverside on Sunday.
The fatal crash happened around 10:10 on July 17. According to the Riverside Police Department, a 2001 silver Honda Accord was traveling eastbound on Indiana Avenue, where a bicyclist was crossing. The driver, a 40-year-old Corona man, struck the bicyclist at a high rate of speed.
After striking the victim, the suspect fled but witnesses followed him.
First responders rushed the bicyclist to a local hospital, where the victim succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities only identified the bicyclist as a 48-year-old Riverside man.
Meanwhile, police later located the suspect and determined that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. They arrested him on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run with injury.
