OAKLAND, CA (January 25, 2021) – A man died late Monday night after crashing his car into a Jeep and then a pillar in West Oakland, police said.

Around 11:08 p.m. officers responded to Martin Luther King Jr. Way and 55th Street after someone reported a collision between two vehicles.

When they arrived, they discovered that a woman was driving 2012 Jeep Liberty north on Martin Luther King Jr. Way and as she turned left to go down 55th Street, her Jeep was struck by a speeding, southbound 2001 Toyota Camry.

The Toyota lost control from the impact and it continued south until it hit a pillar in the 5400 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way, according to police.

The Toyota driver died at the scene. The coroner’s office identified him as 40-year-old Anthony Taylor of Sacramento.

Police did not indicate if the other driver sustained any injuries.
