Woman Dies in Alameda Pileup Crash on 880 Freeway north of Lewelling Boulevard

 
ALAMEDA, CA (February 25, 2021) – A woman died in a nine-vehicle pileup Tuesday morning in San Leandro, CHP officials said.
 
The Alameda County coroner’s bureau identified the victim as 22-year-old Ameena Hayat of Alameda.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 10:00 a.m., February 23 on southbound 880 Freeway north of Lewelling Boulevard.
 
CHP officials said Hayat was driving a white Honda Civic at the time of the crash. An SUV collided with her car and came to rest on top of its rear. Six other vehicles were involved.
 
Hayat sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. Her passenger was hospitalized with major injuries.
 
Paramedics transported two more people to a hospital with unspecified injuries.
 
Investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. Further investigation is underway.
