Albert Ybarra Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash on Leffingwell Road [Whittier, CA]

Father of Two Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run SUV in Whittier

 
WHITTIER, CA (March 5, 2024) – Albert Ybarra was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Whittier last month on February 21.
 
The fatal crash happened around 9:42 p.m. in the 15600 block of Leffingwell Road. According to the Whittier Police Department, Ybarra was crossing the road when one car swerved to avoid him. However, a light-colored SUV did not stop to avoid and struck him.
 
After striking Ybarra, the driver of the SUV took off without rendering aid.
 
Ybarra was rushed to UCI Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries nearly two weeks later. He was 43 years old and a father of two.
 
The driver who swerved to avoid Ybarra stayed at the scene.

At this time, the hit-and-run suspect remains at large.

Police said the SUV has possible damage to the front and was last seen heading west on Leffingwell Road. They urged anyone with video or information about this case to call Officer Leonette at 562-567-9258.
