83-Year-Old Woman Killed, James Slack Arrested in DUI Crash on Skyway [Paradise, CA]

Elderly Woman Dies after Crash with Drunk Driver on Skyway in Paradise

 
PARADISE, CA (September 14, 2023) – An 83-year-old woman died in a DUI crash in Paradise Sunday afternoon on September 10.
 
The fatal crash happened around 4:43 p.m. in the 9000 block of Skyway. According to the Paradise Police Department, 47-year-old James Brandon Slack of Magalia was driving east on Skyway when he drifted into the oncoming lane. He then collided head-on with another car, driven by the victim.
 
As a result of the crash, both the woman and Slack suffered severe injuries. Paramedics transported them to a local area hospital.
 
Around 9:30 p.m., the elderly woman succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. She was not yet identified.
 
During the investigation, officers learned Slack had been watching football and drinking prior to the collision.
 
Police placed Jack under arrest at the hospital. After his release, they will book him on suspicion of felony violation of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
