Driver Rushed to Hospital, Van Crashes Into Tractor-Trailer on Vasco Road in Conta Costa County

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (September 14, 2023) — A driver suffered serious injuries after his van crashed into a big rig on Vasco Road near Camino Diablo.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the two-vehicle crash happened around 11:00 a.m. Wednesday. For an unknown reason, an agricultural tractor-trailer experienced a mechanical failure. Per reports, his clutch and the truck began overheating.

Subsequently, the driver exited the big rig to retrieve his emergency triangles. However, in light of this attempt, a southbound driver in a van tried to avoid hitting the rig by veering to the right. Instead, the van ended up rear-ending the right rear of the trailer.

Moments later, emergency personnel responded to the scene and found the van driver with puncture wounds to his arm and chest. After rescuing the driver, paramedics airlifted him to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.

At this time, authorities have much to investigate. If anyone has additional information, please call the CHP.

Periodically servicing your vehicle will prevent mechanical failures. Always make sure to get your oil changed, fluids topped off and tires rotated. Driving is stressful enough. However, take extra measures to care for your vessel to prevent causing a collision.
