73-Year-Old Man Dies in Pedestrian Crash on Highway 65 in Bakersfield

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (April 11, 2023)— A 73-year-old man died in a pedestrian accident on Highway 65 near Merle Haggard Drive Saturday.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the pedestrian accident happened around 1:31 a.m. For unknown reasons, a 73-year-old pedestrian walking southbound wandered into the path of a southbound 2020 Peterbilt truck.
 
The semi-truck subsequently struck the pedestrian, knocking him onto the west shoulder of the southbound lane.
 
The unidentified pedestrian died shortly after. Following the accident, the Peterbilt driver stayed at the scene for the investigation. Authorities do not know why the man wandered into the truck’s path, but they have ruled out impairment as a possible source.
