71-Year-Old Ken Balayev Dead, Samantha Molina, Francisco Gil, Richard Wold Injured in Wrong-Way Crash on 110 Freeway near Adams Boulevard
LOS ANGELES, CA (May 30, 2023) — Ken Balayev died in a wrong-way crash on the 110 Freeway near Adams Boulevard Friday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly two-vehicle crash happened around 2:49 a.m. Friday. For an unknown reason, 23-year-old Samantha Molina, of Los Angeles, was driving south in the northbound lane. Subsequently, her Chevy Cruz crashed into a Toyota Prius taxicab traveling in the northbound lane.
Minutes later, emergency personnel arrived at the scene and extricated two people from the Chevy: Molina and her 21-year-old passenger, Francisco Gil of Los Angeles, both of whom suffered major injuries.
A passenger in the Toyota taxi, 48-year-old Richard Wold of Los Angeles, suffered minor injuries in the crash. The driver of the Toyota, however, died in the accident, and the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office identified him as 71-year-old Balayev, of Calabasas.
Traffic investigators arrested Molina and closed all lanes of the northbound freeway to investigate the crash. They opened the lanes around 6:00 a.m. after the investigation.
At this time, authorities need more time in identifying the factors leading to the crash. If anyone has more information, please call the CHP Central Los Angeles Area office at 231-744-2337 or 323-259-3200.
Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends of Ken Balayev.
