Coast Guard Searches for 3 Missing People, Downed Aircraft off San Clemente Island
SAN CLEMENTE ISLAND, CA (May 11, 2023) — The US Coast Guard is searching for three people and a downed plane that went missing off San Clemente Island Wednesday morning.
According to reports, the incident happened around 7:53 a.m. Wednesday. For unknown reasons, a Phoenix Learjet owned by Fireside Partners in Delaware occupied by three people crashed near San Clemente Island. Reports say that the Phoenix Learjet did not return to the runway after experiencing an emergency on board.
Soon after, crews from the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station San Diego launched a search in a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter.
Coast Guard officials believe the debris field found near the island was from the Learjet.
Federal aircraft crews, including C-130 out of Tucson, Ariz., and a Homeland Security aircraft joined the search for the missing three people and crashed plane.
