3 People Killed After Car Overturns and Strikes Deer and Tree on Highway 44 in Shingletown

SHINGLETOWN, CA (November 2, 2023) — Three people died, and two people were injured after a car hit a deer and a tree on Highway 44 near Brush Creek Lane.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly single-car crash happened Halloween night just before 8:00 p.m. To avoid hitting a deer, a driver of a 1995 Toyota SUV swerved, but struck the deer anyway. Soon after, paramedics responded and found three people, including a person under the age of 18, deceased at the scene. According to CHP officers, two children under 13 years old suffered serious injuries and were taken to Mercy Medical Center and UC Davis Hospital.
