25 Law Enforcement Recruits Hurt, Car Strikes Group During Training on Mills Avenue in Whittier

 
WHITTIER, CA (November 17, 2022) — Roughly 25 law enforcement recruits were injured after a car crashed into the group during their training on Mills Avenue near Telegraph Road.
 
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the incident happened around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday. For unknown reasons, a 22-year-old Diamond Bar man driving an SUV crashed in the 10600 block of Mills Avenue. The driver swerved into the group of runners near the sheriff’s STARS Explorer Academy.
 
As a result of the accident, five people suffered critical injuries, four people sustained moderate injuries and 16 people walked out with minor injuries. Another who was injured included the SUV driver. While some suffered head trauma and broken bones, some sustained a loss of limb, Sheriff Alex Villanueva noted.
 
It’s unclear what drove the accident, but an investigation into the crash should confirm the details. Thus far, authorities believe the vehicle was going about 30 to 40 miles per hour at the time of the incident.
