2 Teens Dead after Car Crashes into San Joaquin River in Lathrop
LATHROP, CA (December 28, 2021) — Two teens are dead after a car crashes into the San Joaquin River near Dos Reis Road on Thursday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal single-car accident happened around 10:00 p.m. For DUI-related reasons, a 17-year-old driving a Honda Accord was speeding westbound on Dos Reis Road. Subsequently, the Honda passed the end of the road through a fence and overturned into the San Joaquin River.
As a result, the vehicle landed on its roof and submerged into the water.
At some point after the crash, the teen driver was able to escape, and first responders pulled out the 16-year-old female passenger. However, a 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl died at the scene.
At this time, CHP officers have not released the names of the minors involved in this crash. Although, they have factored alcohol into the cause of the crash.
