Stolen Vehicle Involved in Police Pursuit Accident on Henderson Road in Redding

REDDING, CA (November 30, 2023) – Authorities apprehended two juveniles, ages 13 and 16, following a stolen vehicle accident on Henderson Road, early Wednesday morning.

According to the Redding Police Department, the incident happened on November 15, at about 5:00 a.m. 24-year-old Trent Van Sweden reported his newly-bought vehicle, a Chevrolet Duramax truck, stolen from his home at the 2600 block of Wilson Avenue.

When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled the area and a pursuit began. Then, the vehicle struck a parked vehicle and continued to speed away.

One officer reportedly tried to stop the stolen vehicle using a spike strip. However, the driver changed lanes and swerved into the direction of a police officer. The vehicle then continued south to the end of Henderson Road.

More officers attempted to apprehend the occupants, but the driver intentionally crashed into two police vehicles. Then, the vehicle slammed through a nearby fence, where it stopped and the occupants fled the vehicle on foot.

As per reports, officers later apprehended the driver and an occupant with the help of K9 Duke, The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office, and The California Highway Patrol.

Authorities booked the driver into the Shasta County Juvenile Hall for Vehicle Theft, Possession of Stolen Property, Reckless Evading, Resisting Arrest with Violence, and three counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon against the officers, Hit-and-Run, Conspiracy to Commit a Crime, and a warrant for Robbery out of Glenn County.

Responders transported the other juvenile to a hospital.
