2 Hospitalized After Driver Strikes Disabled Car on Highway 58 in Bakersfield

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 5, 2024) — Two people were injured after a driver hit a disabled car on Highway 58 near Bussell Road.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the two-car crash happened around 6:30 a.m. Thursday. Under unclear circumstances, a 66-year-old Bakersfield man crashed his 2001 Toyota RAV4, which became disabled in the westbound lane. Subsequently, the driver exited the car to inspect the damage when a westbound 2019 Subaru struck the rear of the Toyota at about 60 mph.
 
Shortly after, paramedics responded and transported both drivers to Kern Medical Hospital with major injuries.
 
During the investigation, police ruled out drugs and alcohol as possible factors in the cause. However, they are looking into patchy fog and unsafe speed as possible explanations.
