2 Killed in Head-On Semi-Truck Crash on Highway 46 in Buttonwillow

BUTTONWILLOW, CA (October 6, 2022)— Two people died in a head-on semi-truck accident on Highway 46 near Gun Club Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the multi-vehicle collision happened Wednesday morning. For unknown reasons, a 32-year-old man operating a 2022 Freightliner eastbound on Highway 46 veered out of his lane into westbound traffic.

Subsequently, the 2022 Freightliner crashed into a westbound 2010 semi-trailer. As a result of the impact, the 2010 truck continued westbound, blocking the westbound lanes while the 2022 semi-trailer spun out of control and struck a westbound 2003 Toyota whose driver veered to the right to avoid the impending crash.

Soon after, police and paramedics arrived at the scene and found the Toyota trapped underneath the semi-trailer.

Although everyone wore their seatbelt, two people were confirmed dead moments later.

Information about the victims’ names or the factors that drove the accident is unavailable. However, if anyone has more to add, please call the CHP.
