Police Arrest DUI Suspect after Fatally Striking Two Bicyclists in Rancho Cucamonga

 
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA (January 22, 2023) – Two bicyclists died and police arrested Robert Gubany after a DUI crash in Rancho Cucamonga on Tuesday evening.
 
The fatal crash happened around 8:20 p.m. on January 17, at Foothill Boulevard and Etiwanda Avenue. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the victims were riding their bicycles westbound in the bicycle lane, traveling against the flow of traffic.
 
Gubany, a 23-year-old Fontana resident, was driving a sedan east on Foothill Boulevard when he moved onto the right-hand bicycle lane to pass traffic. He then collided with the bicyclists.
 
When deputies arrived, the 33-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The 41-year-old male victim was transported to a local hospital, where he also succumbed to his injuries. Both were residents of Upland.
 
Meanwhile, Gubaby continued driving away from the scene and was involved in a second crash later that night. That crash did not result in any injuries. Police later arrested him on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence of alcohol.
 
This fatal crash remains under investigation. Police asked anyone with information to contact investigators at 909-477-2800.
