16-Year-Old Eugenio Mendez Hospitalized, Dayton Williams Uninjured in Deadly Dirt Bike Crash at Highway 120 and 26 Mile Road
OAKDALE, CA (April 17, 2023) — Eugenio Mendez was injured in a fatal dirt bike accident at Highway 120 and 26 Mile Road Wednesday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal dirt bike accident happened around 8:10 p.m. For unknown reasons, a 20-year-old driver of a 2003 Honda Escalon dirt bike crashed into a southbound 1996 Ford pickup truck, driven by 22-year-old Dayton Williams, of Oakdale. Both vehicles crashed in a head-on fashion while the dirt headed westbound on Highway 120.
According to an investigation, Williams had just stopped at the intersection’s stop sign before the impact, which ejected Mendez and the dirt bike operator onto the road. Both of them did not wear a helmet.
In addition to the investigation, authorities learned that the Honda did not have the lighting required to make it legal to ride on the highway.
Soon after the crash, paramedics took 16-year-old Mendez to Memorial Medical Center for treatment. The dirt bike rider, whose name police have not yet released, died in the crash. Authorities have yet to determine if impairment played a role in the collision.
