Child Killed in 2-Vehicle Crash at Highway 79 in San Diego County

 
SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA (February 23, 2024) — An 11-year-old girl died in a 2-car accident at Highway 79 and Highway 76.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly two-vehicle crash happened around 2:40 p.m. over the weekend. Under unclear circumstances, a 27-year-old woman in a 2020 Honda Accord drove through the intersection, in front of an oncoming 2022 Ford F-150. Subsequently, both vehicles crashed as the Ford struck the Honda’s left side.
 
Shortly after, paramedics responded and confirmed that an 11-year-old Honda passenger passed away. The 27-year-old driver and her 16-year-old and 34-year-old passengers suffered minor injuries and sought hospital care. Meanwhile, the 53-year-old man driving the Ford also suffered minor injuries and received treatment at the scene.
 
At the time of the report, traffic investigators did not believe impairment factored into the cause. However, authorities are looking into the possible factors that could explain this deadly accident.
