1 Person Dead in Head-On Motorcycle Crash on Highway 166 in Santa Maria

 
SANTA MARIA, CA (July 31, 2023) — One person died in a head-on motorcycle accident on Highway 166 near Black Road.
 
According to reports, the fatal two-vehicle crash happened around 6:45 p.m. For an unknown reason, a motorcyclist crashed head-on with a black Subaru.
 
As a result, one person, believed to be the motorcyclist, passed away in the accident. Officials did not release the individual’s name.
 
Callers informed emergency dispatchers that the motorcycle involved in the crash caught on fire off the roadway. As a result, the flame spread to nearby vegetation, charring about 2 to 3 acres.
 
Soon after, Santa Barbara County Air Support Unit arrived to assist firefighters on the ground. A Cal Star Medical helicopter responded, as well, to airlift one person with critical injuries to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
 
At this time, the surviving patient’s condition is unknown.
