1 Killed, Several Injured in 2-Car Accident on Highway 101 near Olive Mill Road [Montecito, CA]

1 Dead, 4 Hospitalized in Highway 101 Crash in Montecito

 
MONTECITO, CA (August 14, 2023) — One person died, and several others were injured in a 2-car accident on Highway 101 near Olive Mill Road.
 
According to the Montecito Fire Protection District, the deadly two-car crash happened around 3:10 a.m. Sunday. For an unknown reason, two cars, including an SUV, collided on Highway 101 before the Olive Mill Road exit. At some point during the collision, the SUV veered down an embankment, crashed and ejected one person from the cabin.
 
Soon after, California Highway Patrol and firefighters responded to the scene. The victim ejected from the SUV suffered fatal injuries. Authorities did not release the person’s name pending notification of next of kin.
 
An occupant from the same car sustained major wounds and required extrication and hospital care. In addition, three people in the other car reported minor injuries and were shuttled to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment.
 
At this time, traffic investigators do not have an explanation for the crash; however, a deep dive into the collision should confirm any unclear details.
