Train Collide with Pickup Truck on Santa Fe Way in Shafter Killing One

 
SHAFTER, CA (May 16, 2022) – One person died and three others were hurt in a train accident along Santa Fe Way in Shafter on Friday afternoon, May 13.
 
The collision happened just after 2:00 p.m., between Orange and Burbank streets. According to the Shafter Police Department, the train was traveling southbound from Oakland to Bakersfield and carrying 137 people onboard. For unknown reasons, it collided into the pickup truck.
 
The pickup truck burst into flames as it was dragged along the tracks several hundred feet before coming to a stop.
 
Responding fire crews confirmed that one person was dead inside the truck.
 
Train passengers were able to climb out of the train and gathered in a cemetery until buses were able to drive them to the station in Bakersfield. Three train passengers suffered minor injuries.
 
At this time, this fatal collision is still under investigation.
