Wrong-Way Driver Dies after Colliding with Pickup Truck on 5 Freeway in Yreka

 
YREKA, CA (September 15, 2021) – One person died and two others suffered serious injuries after a wrong-way accident on 15 Freeway near Yreka.
 
The accident happened just before 12:30 p.m. on Monday, September 13 on the Klamath River Bridge in Siskiyou County. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2012 Maserati was heading southbound in the northbound lanes of the freeway when it collided head-on with a 2016 Ford pickup truck traveling at 65 mph.
 
Despite life-saving efforts, the driver of the Maserati died at the scene.
 
Two people in the Ford pickup suffered major injuries and were transported by Mount Shasta Ambulance to a hospital. Their conditions remain unknown.
 
The cause and factors involved are still under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the crash or saw either vehicle just prior to the crash is asked to call Officer Golden at (530) 842-0530.
