Suspected Street Racing Accident on Mesa Drive in Oceanside Leaves 1 Dead

 
OCEANSIDE, CA (September 13, 2021) – One person died and two others sustained serious injuries after a suspected street racing accident on Mesa Drive Friday evening.
 
The fatal crash happened around 7:40 p.m. on September 10, in the 4300 block of Mesa Drive. According to the Oceanside Police Department, the 27-year-old victim was driving a Dodge Charger at a high rate of speed, possibly racing with a silver vehicle. He lost control of his car and spun into oncoming traffic, striking a Mini Cooper.
 
The Charger then overturned several times and traveled about 350 feet down an embankment.
 
When police arrived at the scene, they found the man unresponsive inside the Charger. They pronounced him dead at the scene.
 
Two seriously injured people were lying outside the Mini Cooper. An air ambulance transported them to a hospital in unknown conditions.
 
Meanwhile, the driver of the silver vehicle fled the scene.
 
The Oceanside Police Department is investigating the fatal crash. They asked anyone with further information to call Accident Investigator Clint Bussey at 760-435-4412.
