Crossing Guard Fatally Struck by Car in Front of Lafayette Middle School

 
LAFAYETTE, CA (September 13, 2021)Ashley Dias died in a pedestrian accident outside Stanley Middle School in Lafayette Wednesday.
 
The fatal accident happened around 3:00 p.m. on September 8, on School Street at Paradise Court. According to Lafayette police, the 45-year-old victim from San Francisco was a crossing guard and on his second day on the job. He was trying to save a girl when an oncoming SUV struck them.
 
Dias was trapped under the car and was pulled out by witnesses. Responding paramedics rushed him to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
 
The child had minor injuries.
 
The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Dias had pushed children, including the girl who was injured, out of the path of the SUV.
 
Sheriff’s officials said the driver of the SUV stayed at the scene and spoke with authorities.
 
An investigation is ongoing.
