Police Arrest Irving Rodriguez-Barraza for Buttonwillow DUI Crash, 1-Year-Old Aislyn Kamila Tejeda Dies

 
BUTTONWILLOW, CA (August 12, 2022) – A 1-year-old girl died and police arrested Irving Rodriguez-Barraza after a DUI crash in the Buttonwillow area on Saturday, July 23.
 
The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified Aislyn Kamila Tejeda, 1, as the child who died.
 
The fatal crash happened just before 4:30 p.m. According to the CHP, 22-year-old Rodriguez-Barraza from Wasco drove a 2004 Dodge Ram pickup truck east on Burbank Street, approaching Shafter Avenue. He was with his passenger, 48-year-old Cruz Carrillo Olvera.
 
Rodriguez-Barraza ran a stop sign and crashed into the driver’s side of a 2017 Jeep Cherokee. As a result, the Jeep crashed into an almond orchard and overturned, according to officials.
 
The Jeep Cherokee was driven by 29-year-old Jesus Tejada Sanchez of Bakersfield, and 34-year-old Joanne Figueroa, and two children were passengers, according to officials. Aislyn was one of those children. It was heading north on Shafter Avenue approaching Burbank Street.
 
According to officials, Aislyn and the five others who were injured in this crash were taken to Kern Medical for treatment of major or moderate injury.
 
Aislyn died at the hospital at 6:00 p.m., according to the coroner. You can donate to Aislyn’s GoFundMe.
 
Police arrested Rodriguez-Barraza for causing the crash and is under suspicion for driving under the influence of alcohol.
 
The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident.
