Pedestrian Dies, 3-Car Crash on 5 Freeway in Mission Viejo

 
MISSION VIEJO, CA (May 23, 2022) — A pedestrian died in a 3-car accident on the 5 Freeway near Crown Valley Parkway on Tuesday night.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the multi-vehicle crash happened around 10:51 p.m. For unknown reasons, an Aliso Viejo man was walking in the carpool lane of the 5 Freeway when an oncoming Tesla fatally struck him.
 
Immediately after, the driver stopped and exited the vehicle and stood on the right shoulder of the freeway. Shortly after, a high speeding BMW crashed into the stopped Tesla before a third car became involved.
 
Following the incident, paramedics and authorities reached the scene and arrested the 29-year-old female driver from Oceanside who crashed into the Tesla. Meanwhile, paramedics brought a San Clemente man to Mission Hospital with moderate injuries.
 
At this time, the fatal victim’s name and the factors leading to the crash require more examination. Thus, anyone with information should contact the CHP.
