Jorge Gomez Dies in Fiery Bakersfield Car Accident

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (September 29, 2021) – One person died after a car accident on Union Avenue at Ming Avenue early Saturday, September 25.
 
Police identified the victim as 41-year-old Bakersfield resident Jorge Edgardo Serrano Gomez, according to the Kern County Coroner’s Office.
 
The accident happened around 1:16 a.m. near Southgate. According to the California Highway Patrol, a white Kia was going at a high rate of speed when a tow truck carrying a commercial vehicle turned into the Kia’s path. The driver of the Kia swerved to avoid the truck but slammed into a pole.
 
When police arrived, they located the Kia fully engulfed in flames. A good Samaritan attempted to extinguish the flames prior to first responders arriving, while another performed CPR on Gomez.
 
However, Gomez was pronounced deceased at the scene.
 
At this time, it is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
